Meditation,
involving repetition of chanted and/or spoken words, is common in
varied religious practices all over the world. It is a way to draw
repeated attention to something of importance and usually reflects a
person’s spiritual connection with the Divine.
A yearning for stillness, and a need to slow down the speed of time,
prompted me to cultivate a personal meditation discipline in the year
2000. In this meditation, I hand-scripted repetitions of three to four
juxtaposed German concepts onto 10-meter long mulberry and rice paper
scrolls. This form of writing has, since then, become my ongoing
spiritual discipline. Thirteen scrolls, with various
word-compositions, have thus far been completed and exhibited in
churches and public spaces in Germany, France and, recently, also in
Canada. |
