welcome–willkommen–velkommen–bienvenue–benvenuto

I take great pleasure in working and experimenting with different types of materials and surfaces. These include woodcuts, stone-lithography, mixed-media prints, scripted works on papers and scrolls, watercolor paintings on scrolls, mixed media installations and land-art. Performative  collaborations with sound and voice artists are also part of my ongoing activities.

In this website I show excerpts from 4 different collections of works that reflect my thoughts on the complex inter-relationships of “Nature ® Human ® Culture ® ”. In this triad, I see each entity being affected by and reflected in the other.

Nature

Human                       Culture

Fragments
-  Fragments of Organisms”, a series of original hand-pulled prints, printed from carved wooden matrixes, showing images of fragments from human, animal and plant anatomy. Once a matrix has been printed onto a paper, it is carved again; sometimes the matrixes are cut apart and reassembled in a new configuration
-  Aspects of Aphrodite”, a series of stone lithographs referencing the Greek Goddess of Fecundity and Love

Scripted Works
- a series of unique lithograph/monotypes and etchings with added hand-scripted layered text to form weavings with German word-triplets
- original “Oakleaf Alphabet” (29 oak-leaves; each represents a character to form a 29 letter German alphabet)
- “Oakleaf Alphabet Codex”, used in my transcriptions of Hoelderlin and Novalis poems (printed woodcut)
 - “Hyperions Schicksalslied”, printed woodcuts showing a Hoelderlin poem (Hyperion’s Song of Destiny) in Oakleaf Alphabet Codex

Wordweaving Scrolls
a series of hand-scripted mulberry-paper and rice paper scrolls, each showing different words that were scripted with pen and ink in consistent juxtaposed layers onto 10 meter long scrolls, with installation-shots of exhibitions in Germany, France (with sound artist Emmanuel Mailly) and Canada (with sound/voice artist Catherine F. Lewis)

Botanics
 - “Migrating Figures”, various land-art installations with figures in the shape of my own body-silhouette, filled with various botanical fragments from a given site
- “Lanzara Herbarium”,  watercolor paintings on 10-meter long rice- paper scrolls, depicting plants I collected in fields and gardens in Southern Italy
-
“Open Books”, a series of large printed handmade plant-fibre papers
